Scams Impersonating Utility Companies

pd thumbnail

The City has recently been made aware of residents who have been contacted by individuals pretending to be with utility companies, such as electric and gas service providers. Scammers may pretend the "customer" will benefit from interactions with the impersonators, such as being provided with a refund for overpaying toward past utility bills. Residents should use caution if contacted by a suspicious person or receive a suspicious voicemail recording.

As a reminder, the City participates in the Electric Aggregation Program through Will County Government League, along with 14 other Will County communities. In 2018, Constellation NewEnergy, Inc. was selected as the preferred supplier through a competitive bidding process. The current 36 month program is effective from October 2018 through October 2021. Before the effective date, residents were provided with an option to opt out and join a third party provider. Residents who did not opt out of the program, were automatically enrolled.

Commonweath Edison (ComEd) is the current electric provider for all residents within City limits.
