Detour for Nicor work

State Street (IL 171) & 9th Street (IL 7) Utility Construction In Lockport


Lockport, IL – Nicor Gas and NPL will begin utility relocation work on November 20, 2017. The work will take place on State Street (IL 171), from 8th Street to 10th Street in Downtown Lockport.  The work duration is anticipated to last four (4) weeks.  

Traffic will be impacted in the area during the utility relocation.  State Street (IL 171) will have one (1) southbound lane open to traffic and two (2) northbound lanes open to traffic during construction.  One (1) southbound lane and the on street parking lane will be closed for the duration of the project. 

There will also be the potential for additional temporary lane closures as needed during the construction process.  This includes an overnight closure of 9th Street (IL 7) at State Street (IL 171) with the attached detour.  This closure is anticipated to take place over the course of three (3) nights.

All businesses will remain open during construction.


The overnight road closure of 9th Street (IL 7) from IL 53 to IL 171 will continue FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1 @ 7:00 PM.  The road closure will last through the night and reopen to traffic on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2 @ 5:00 AM.  The road closure of 9th Street (IL 7) begins at IL 53 and includes the bridge for through traffic.
**THIS DETOUR AND ROAD CLOSURE WILL CONTINUE FOR THE WEEK OF MONDAY, DECEMBER 4 THROUGH SATURDAY, DECEMBER 9.  THE ROAD CLOSURE OF 9th STREET (IL 7) BEGINS AT 7:00 PM EACH NIGHT AND CONTINUES UNTIL 5:00 AM THE FOLLOWING MORNING.**  
During the closure of 9th Street (IL 7) from IL 53 to IL 171 (the 9th Street high bridge crossing), traffic is detoured northward to the 135th Street bridge crossing.  
TRAFFIC WILL BE OPEN EACH MORNING AT 5:00 AM ON 9th STREET (IL 7) AT STATE STREET (IL 171).
