NEW SOCIAL EVENTS APP FOR LOCKPORT RESIDENTS

The City of Lockport has contracted with WotNow, a social events app, to promote local events and send reminders of all events and happenings in Lockport and surrounding areas.

Today's citizens, especially millennials, are increasingly interested in "experiences" over things. However, they are also overwhelmed with the amount of information coming to them via emails and social media. In this iNoise, it is becoming increasingly hard to read, retain and remember critical and fun local events and programs. People often miss attending events due to this information overload.

That is why the City of Lockport has partnered with WotNow -  to easily bring events from many of our city venues to people in Lockport and across Chicagoland.

WotNow is a social app with a focus on local experiences - events, programs, notifications and volunteer opportunities. Users download the free WotNow app from Apple iTunes store or Google Play store. Once logged in, users can follow hundreds of organizations and then get their events automatically in the app without visiting websites or opening emails. They can RSVP, like, comment and share events to plan group activities. WotNow is rapidly growing with many parents and youth using it to keep track of critical and fun things.

Mayor Steve Streit says "All events from City of Lockport, Lockport Chamber of Commerce, Gaylord Building, Will County Historical Society, IL State Museum, Limestone Theatre, The Artist Guild of Lockport and the Summer Art Series will be on WotNow." In addition, WotNow has 1000s of Chicagoland venues and businesses that users can browse to find events of interest.

"We have thousands of users who use the app to follow their favorite schools, churches, sports teams, businesses, and even volunteer opportunities", says Deepa Salem, founder and CEO.  "We hope to connect society in more meaningful ways, such as by matching youth and adults with volunteer opportunities to enable them to give back with ease".
