The Lockport Police Department is committed to serving the community, and as always, takes criminal acts very seriously. One of the most recent trends being reported to police departments is the increase in scams surrounding the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES), in which criminals are obtaining a victim's information in an attempt to file a fraudulent claim for benefits they are not entitled to.
The LPD is asking that anyone who has been victimized, report the incident to IDES through their site and landing page, Reporting Unemployment Insurance Fraud. It is imperative that victims use this resource to report claims as soon as possible, so the case can be reviewed by IDES.
The IDES is currently handling these cases; however, should you need further assistance, you may contact your local police department either in person or by phone for guidance. Generally, a police report will not be completed, nor is it required to open a fraud or identity theft case. The Lockport Police Department can provide an incident number along with a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) entry if needed.
