Lockport Chamber of Commerce and City of Lockport Joint Statement on Cancellation of Old Canal Days
In an effort to continue to minimize the impact of COVID-19, and in the interest of public health and safety, the Lockport Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel Old Canal Days, originally scheduled for June 18-21, 2020. While the decision was not made lightly, the Chamber Board felt it necessary, in accordance with Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker’s executive orders and current recommended guidelines established by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
“Our Old Canal Days is a big part of our community that brings joy to our residents, support to our local business community, and everyone together,” said Tim Gaba, President of the Lockport Chamber of Commerce. “We understand this decision is very disheartening but know that we will get through these tough times together and be back stronger than ever!”
Every year, Old Canal Days attracts thousands of residents and visitors to Lockport in celebration of the City of Historic Pride and the Illinois & Michigan (I&M) Canal’s contributions to the region. This family-friendly summer festival features the annual Lockport parade, live music, craft show, family-friendly activities, carnival, food trucks, beer garden, wine tent, and much more.
“Since 1973, Old Canal Days has held significance in celebration of our City’s rich history,” explains Mayor Steven Streit. “While we are disappointed with the current situation in which we find ourselves, on behalf of the City Council, we appreciate the leadership of the Chamber Board, and are already looking forward to 2021 hoping that next year will be the best year yet!”
The Lockport Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the new Save the Date: June 10-13, 2021.
